I'm hitting the road, playing some solo and mostly opening for my super talented friends and two time Grammy Award winners, Snarky Puppy.

Two years ago I produced a show at the Tranzac Club (one of my favourite spots in Toronto) called Songs We Write, Covers We Love. It was a chance for me to play with and feature some of the best of Toronto's musicians and songwriters, as well as workshop my own tunes before I recorded them on See Us Through. Six shows and many profoundly moving musical experiences later, I made my record and put a pause on the series. Now I've decided to start things up again, but this time, it'll be in New York.
From Toronto to NYC, this is a show that features two writers, their music and covers of their fave influences. We'll always have a new band curated to the guest artist and new tunes. Our first show features the buttery vocal and sharp, soulful songwriting of Melissa McMillan, and new pals Ross Pederson and Julia Adamy Pederson in the rhythm section. Next up in June will be a vocalist and composer I have long since admired since The Henrys days, Becca Stevens. Last Tuesday of every month. Rockwood Music Hall (Stage 3). 10pm / $10 I wrote It'll Rain Today five years ago, sitting at my kitchen window ledge, thinking about someone I deeply loved who was struggling.
Since then, it's had a life I couldn't ever have thought possible, with performances all over the world, and dedications to new and old friends, family, or anyone I wanted to send something positive to. Last month, over the course of four days, during sunrise and sunset, a group of amazing friends, family, and supporters came by and were filmed one at a time by the fabulous Gaëlle Legrand. She shot in various stages of light, and people sang lyrics or just looked out. It's such a vulnerable thing being in front of a camera, but Gaëlle was a relaxing and gracious director. I can't explain how much it means to me to have so many friends be a part of it. I LOVE THESE PEOPLE SO MUCH. That said, it was always our intention and hope that you wouldn't need to know a single soul in this video to be affected by it, and I think/hope this remains true. I'm very proud of this, my first actual music video! My deep gratitude goes to Gaëlle for her vision, work and creativity, and for making me bawl like a big baby the first time I saw it. If you like it, go on and share it in your world! Best, Michelle |
