I’ve been wanting to work with these two beauts since I thought of the idea for this show. Both Alex and Felicity have incredible voices, and each are a part of a diverse scene of music in Toronto and across the continent. They tour and perform with artists like Bahamas and Meredith Monk, and both teach regularly at the University of Toronto and Humber College. I’m so happy to be making music with them. Our show is next THURS Oct 3 at 10pm. In the front room at The Tranzac Club. We’ve also got a great rhythm section lined up! Maury LaFoy and Mack Longpre. See you there!

Three Metre Day will be putting on our best French accents this weekend while doing two shows. One is a lovely house concert in an Ottawa-n living room, and the other will be at the legendary Black Sheep Inn (Wakefield, QC). See you there! In the meantime, follow our travels on Twitter. Don has been sharing some of his beautiful photographs amidst our adventures.
Sunday Sept 22 @ Black Sheep Inn 4:20pm, $10 Buy Advance Tickets This has been a big summer. Lots of planning, thinking, forging ahead, bike trips, learning french, caesers, great bands, new music, doo wop back up singing, dealing with the past, dreaming of the future, and pressing go. Sometimes I feel like I’m bubbling near the surface of the ‘new understanding’. Sometimes I am way way down in the muck and there ain’t a clearing in sight. All that’s left to do is keep working through it. Near the dark and near the light, too, I think. I’m happy to say at the moment I am really energized by the work that is to come this fall, which means, I am energized by all the work being done now for music this fall…
I wrote last year that I wanted to put in the plans for my own solo project. That dream is slowly starting to be realized through meetings I’ve been having with Jonathan Goldsmith. I’ve worked with Jon on a couple of film scores he has composed, and I have always been amazed at – alongside his deep musicality – is his ability to perfectly articulate musical ideas and direction, or to conjure up an image for me to relate to in order to access the right sensibility. It’s a skill so important in studio and one I appreciate very much. His arrangements on Bruce Cockburns’ records are breathtaking, most notably for me “Beautiful Creatures”. He is a member of one of my favourite bands this city has ever produced, Nick Buzz. He has scored countless films and TV shows and remains one of the most respected names in Canadas film and tv industry. He has produced records for Bruce Cockburn, Hugh Marsh, Jenn Grant and more recently, Sarah Slean. That being said, records are a big investment. My hopes are high and pockets somewhat empty. I plan to apply for grant funding, and will also look into sites like indiegogo.com as I think they are a brilliant way to connect to an audience and make music an involved experience. If you have any ideas about other ways to find investments, or if you yourself are looking to invest in a project like mine, I would love to talk with you and find ways to make it work.
