We started the day with Tom Juhas, Darryl Poulsen, Charles James and Gary Craig, laying down a few new bed tracks for It'll Rain Today, Trigger, and Trust Me. I'm so happy with the way these songs have turned out.
Next came Steve Henry, in to play some roaring Hammond B3 organ on Liberty, Trigger, and Persimmon.
Rob Piltch (!) came in to perform some of the most beautiful acoustic guitar I've ever heard. He also lended a gorgeous electric guitar part to my song "If I Had My Way".
Amidst Rob's overdubs, the side room of our studio was getting packed with friends and family of mine, rehearsing their choir parts. Could I be more lucky? Once they moved into the main tracking room - oh man, I cannot even begin to describe how joy-filled this part of the night was. By this point it was 9pm and a few of us had been there and working since 9:30am. In walks some of the most important people in my life, singing my songs (and knocking it out of the park), all of us dancing away. A great moment that I will treasure for a long time.
All of this was expertly and joyfully maneuvered by Denis Tougas (engineer), Luke Schindler (assistant) and Bill Bell.
Tuesday was spent with The O'Pears, Olivia Cox (my talented Sis) and Marla Walters. These 5 women added some more vocal background parts to the songs. They sound WICKED!
Ooogh. I cannot wait to finally share these songs with you this fall.
More coming up! Lots more recording happening in the next two weeks, and then starting in April I'm off on tour with Peter Katz for two months. Yikes! Fast and furious these days come.
