“Sharp, hip, singer-songwriter music. If it were 1973 all over again, Willis would be touring with Dylan and releasing acclaimed albums for a generation to fall in love with."
Pop Matters

Rich is the Wanderer EP - Out Now

6 May, 2025 - Michelle Willis releases a new collection of songs, sung and played on guitars (a departure from her trusty wurlitzer), with Crosby-inspired guitar tunings. The songs pay tribute to the art of wandering; observing the interim stages of change and human connection. The five track EP was recorded with Gordon Maclean on the Isle of Mull, co-produced with Jacob Blumberg, and features the inimitable playing of Greg Leisz on pedal steel and Alec Spiegelman on woodwinds.

New Release
w/ Hiromi

February 28, 2025 —  Today, pianist and composer Hiromi releases “Pendulum,” featuring her Sonicwonder band and Michelle Willis, best known for her collaborations with Becca Stevens and the late David Crosby, on vocals. Hiromi has long been a fan of Willis’ work, and calls her a “beautiful voice, and a very strong musician.” The pianist’s arrangement is ballad-to-midtempo jazz kissed by sensual neo-soul, and the original lyrics, co-written by Willis and Hiromi, are “about life,” the pianist says — “the come and go of it. Life is like a wave, or like a kind of pendulum. You have to go with the flow.”

“‘How Come’ is about a relationship coming apart, and a few of the emotional rollercoasters we find ourselves on in that process. This song was by far the hardest for us to finish. We tried half a dozen pianos, several drummers and approaches, but in the end I think that Michael McDonald was the soul we needed! What a love-bomb of musical mastery. It is an absurd dream and honor that he graced us with his musicianship.”

Glide Magazine Premieres Green Grey

“Close your eyes when Michelle Willis sings and you might feel like you are at the Brill Building in the early ’60s when Carole King ran the show with her prolific pop melodies. Yet this singer-songwriter also has a modern flair that plays along with the spirited jams of Lake Sreet Dive and the hearty roots of Tedeschi Trucks Band.”
